Between Elton always hopping on whomever is popular to keep his own relevance viable ( which is smart because it ups his status as a Rock/Pop elder statesman instead of looking sad and desperate by railing against the kids like some of his peers do) and Ed giving Elton a shout out in that terrible song he wrote for BTS, I suppose this collab was a painful inevitability. Yuck.
I do like what Elton is doing too (that song with Dua is a bop).
I wish Madonna would have gone this route. There was promise when she did the VMAs with Britney and Christina and wore those "Britney Spears" and "Kylie Minogue" shirts around the same time ... although I recall Kylie being asked about it and she felt it may have been shady. She ruined her legacy with a new generation by competing with, rather than uplifting, those who came after.
I always think Madonna can't accept that she's now like The Stones or Elton: a legacy act. She wants to be That Girl in the industry again and it's made her make some sad decisions. She should learn from Kylie, appeal to the age demo that still loves her and be friendly to the new pop girls instead of thinking she can compete with them. Fighting with 50Cent makes her look sad. A pop legend should be above it all.
tbf elton seems to genuinely support up and coming artists, i don't think he collaborated with rina sawayama for clout considering that despite her internet hype she's still very much an unknown artist
Yuck.
