When Charlie Puth wants lunch, he tells his driver, "I’m hungies!”

February 2, 2018 To help commemorate Charlie Puth's 30 birthday today, I decided to go deep and undercover (not really) to find the truth. To be, or not be be hungies. That tis' the question on nobody's mind.
In a cover story by Rebecca Milzoff for Billboard about Charlie Puth, the infamous quote "I'm hungies!" took on a life of its own on certain parts of social media and ONTD.
The excerpt that started it all...
“That was Jennifer Lopez.”
Puth’s gaze darts toward the entrance of the Hotel Bel-Air, where we - and, apparently, Lopez and Alex Rodriguez - have come for lunch. “I love J.Lo, but I don’t give a shit.” Puth’s driver, an elderly man named Bela, whisked us here after Puth declared “I’m hungies!” Now, Puth zeroes in on his meal: two plates of hamachi sashimi, black truffle-dusted roast chicken and some charred broccolini he dutifully munches to satisfy Pasternak, his trainer. “Oh, my God, I care more about the truffles on my chicken. Fucking delicious.”

But in 2019, Puth
denied this to Buzzfeed (
and rightfully called this OP bitchy).
“Now this is very interesting… I’ve never said that and I’ve had multiple people come up to me and be like, ‘Charlie, I’m a huge fan, hungies!’,” he says in the video. “I remember I was going to get food and I said I was really hungry. The lady must have misheard me. I don’t know why… I don’t even know if hungies is a word. Why would I say that?”

The writer speaks
Digging deeper into this, I searched to see if the writer had ever addressed this and it seems that she did...
Rebecca Milzoff took to twitter shortly after this denial by tweeting the following rebuttal:
"The lady" takes issue! (However, context is confusing: the iconic quote was declared to the general ether, not directly to driver.)

August 23, 2019 Half-assed conclusion
So perhaps Puth never told his driver directly that he was "hungies," but the writer stands firm that she heard the "Attention" singer say it. So this is very much a he said, she said sort of situation. Who do you believe?
But where is the driver (Bela) in all of this? Did he hear it? Is he still working for Mr. Puth? We may never truly know what happened that day right before lunch at Hotel Bel-Air.
OP reached out to Rebecca to see if she had anything else to add, but received no response as of this posting.
