So we started watching it last Friday, and I ended up turning it off after about 30 minutes (they were all chatting in the dining room, no food) because the cinematography was driving me INSANE. I get they were going for a particular effect, but like, it was distracting to the point where I couldn't focus on what was happening in the scene because they refused to follow conversations via close-up. Should I finish it?? Someone else said it wasn't worth it, lol.

I mean...if that's gonna bother you then the rest of the movie will irritate the crap outta you lol

My partner and I watched it and I went into it not really knowing anything and I guess all I can comment on is the tone and atmosphere it created bc holy shit, [Spoiler (click to open)]never before in my life have I felt that tense during a movie only for nothing to actually happen

It very much achieved a tense feeling that left me on my seat the whole time but perhaps it was also the mood I was in but I really enjoyed it. It also gave me this treasure which I never knew existed before and I love Philip Glass

ETA: If I can sum it up, it felt like watching a stage play, but it's the first time I've felt that about a movie and also didn't feel like it was incredibly pretentious

I watched it on edibles and I couldn't tell if I was making it weirder than it was lol. [Spoiler (click to open)]I actually appreciated the horror elements, sense of dread, and how some of these shots through narrow passageways were positioned. Couldn't really get a sense for how big/small the whole place was since the angles were messing with my perception. The one trick shot that panned out to display the set like a dollhouse kind of blew me away. The whole time I watched it, I kept asking my partner "Is it just me or am I not absorbing anything they're saying at all?" and he kept responding "No, everything they're saying is inconsequential." After that, I just went along with it but can't say I particularly enjoyed the experience.

I felt the same as you and I wasn't on edibles, just slightly tipsy lol so your feelings aren't unfounded!! I felt like I was on a rollercoaster and usually I HATE these types of movies but it created such atmosphere that I couldn't stop watching

I watched it over Thanksgiving and still cannot get over it. It haunts me

Honestly It's not as good as I thought it would be.
