I gotta go see Benedetta, it looks fucking ridiculous (in a good way). I'd also like to catch The Hand of God in theaters if possible. But I'd be happy watching Single All the Way, Silent Night and Flee from my couch when I get a chance.

We saw C'mon C'mon on Tuesday, and I stg, Mike Mills knows exactly what buttons to press to make me weep even when nothing is particularly sad. The main kid was great, as were all the interviewees, and Joaquin and Gaby were excellent. I was excited to see Jaboukie pop up, too.

My husband said he thought it was a good movie, but not one he liked, and I get it - it's pretty introspective and emotional, and he's never been into movies like that. I think it's too slight & quiet to get much awards attention, but I'm glad I saw it!!

Going to see an early screening and Q&A for Red Rocket tonight. From the trailer, I don't think I'm gonna like it, but stranger things have happened.

The AP review , I believe, said Benedetta was giving Showgirls vibes…but also had some gruesome torture scenes

Simon Rex is completely believable as his slimeball charmer of a character, as is everyone in his orbit, which is both good and terrible. The setting is super specific, but if you grew up in or near an economically disadvantaged area with a lot of poor white people, the characters are universal. It's one of the many movies this year that would have benefitted from a tighter final edit; the pace is great for the first 45 minutes or so, and I wish the whole movie had felt that well-constructed.

I think on the whole ONTD will hate it, and I won't necessarily blame them - I can think of several specific things I would have cut and nothing would have been lost. However, the ending is pretty satisfying. Like other Sean Baker movies, I'm glad I watched it, but I don't think I'll be watching again anytime soon.
