I do think she has matured a lot and this is whole interview is very early 20s bravado/insecurity, which is how old she was at the time. I don't think she's completely unproblematic but I also think there was a unique pressure on her to be both perfect and a laughingstock during this time and while she didn't handle it gracefully, idk anyone who would.
they say Sags either love each other or hate each other, no in between. glad all the detestable Sags are celebs, so I can get frequent updates on their foolishness, while adoring the fellow Sags who are actually in my life.
My friend worked at a interview shoot, idk if it was this one, but it was for Red album circuit and she said Taylor was super protected by a bunch of ppl around her and when she spoke she sounded very sheltered from the world.
I think she's been lucky to have parents who have protected her (which helped her not follow the footsteps of other teen stars), but on the other hand, I think her closeness to them also led to her victim mentality. She depends on her mom for therapy.
I agree so much. It doesn’t help that her mom seems to be kind of a narcissist and a stage mom. There’s this story that when Taylor Swift’s professional guitar teacher (from when she was younger) made a website where he used her name as advertisement (called himself Taylor Swift Guitar’s Teacher) her mom called him and LASHED OUT at him for doing that because it was going against Taylor’s “I learnt guitar on my own/casually” image. So her mom literally went off on him until he removed that.
It seems her mom is also the one that might be perpetuating this victim mindset. Like Oh no honey this whole world is against you and they’re just trying to take advantage of you.
Lol my vocal teacher knew the guitar coach guy lmao!!!! He was spilling me minor tea whenever I asked about Taylor Swift tgough, which was kinda disappointing 🤷♀️
I was a “stan” during Fearless to Red (and maybe early 1989) era and I definitely remember the “I’m writing names” marketing. It unfortunately followed her and it seems like she (and some die hard stans) try to rewrite history as if she never milked it lol.
