November 17, 2021 Many songs on Adele's '30' echo 'Back to Black''s jazzy, soulful arrangements, and even the song titles ("Love is a Game" vs. Amy Winehouse's "Love is a Losing Game").
Adele has previously acknowledged Amy's influence on her:“Because of her, I picked up a guitar, and because of her, I write my own songs,” Adele said. “The songs that I got signed with are the songs I wrote completely on my own. If it wasn’t for her, that wouldn’t have happened. I owe 90 percent of my career to her".
The article specifically points out these songs from '30' that imitate Amy's style: “Cry Your Heart Out" (resembling Amy's Motown-inspired “He Can Only Hold Her” and “Tears Dry On Their Own”), "Oh My God", “All Night Parking,” (this track sees Adele experimenting with an R&B sound, similar to the neo-soul sound Amy adopted), and the aforementioned "Love is a Game".
The article points out that Amy didn't invent many of these sounds (Billie Holiday, Aretha Franklin, and Nina Simone spearheaded vocal jazz, and 'Back to Black' was heavily inspired by The Shangri-Las); however, what made her music unique was her ability to resurrect these styles and make them her own.
SOURCE I miss Amy. :(
