My major issue with this season is that what we are seeing isn't fashion. We are seeing clothes. These designers aren't creating anything new or unique. Even the very pretty pieces (like what Octavio, Anna, Shantall, and Aaron made this week) are nothing new. They're just pretty. But at least they are making pretty rehashes of existing designs. Some of the other contestants are making ugly/unflattering rehashes.
I get that Prajjé was paying homage to his grandmother, but my problem was the fit and the fabric choice. The design was classic but it looked like something that the model bought off the rack that still needed to be taken to a tailor to be taken in and fitted properly, which is ridiculous since he made it for his model. The dress looked like it needed to be steamed.
I loved seeing Coral next to her model. She barely came up to her shoulder!
I like Bones but his entire look was a mess. It was a voluminous but shapeless dress, and it had so much going on (color blocking, ruffles, cheap gold mesh, iridescent fabric). The fabrics he chose looked really cheap too.
Katie's dress looked like something a toddler would wear. Color print! Contrasting button colors! Big ruffles on the shoulders! I really root for designers who embrace using color and prints because it drives me crazy when designers insist on using only black*, but everything Katie makes looks so juvenile.
* And see what happened when Coral listened to Christian and made something that wasn't black? She was in the top!
