Definitely not enchanted to meet these perverts. Recently, former Owl City member Daniel Jorgensen was charged with a felony and plead guilty for lewdness with a child. Everything from here on is going to go under a cut because this is a sensitive topic.

I'm not endorsing going thrive your kids' technology without their permission but I can't imagine what it's like to be a parent when there are so many harmful influences on all these common apps

iOS has a new parental control Feature now so if the child conversation has certain „keywords“ in it, it triggers a warning to the parents!

i think all you can do is try to talk to them honestly and openly. starting early is key, i think.

i'm going to start with the concept that adults and children can't be friends. they can be friendly and have important and influential relationships but friendships by their very nature need to have some sort of equality. so they know when an adult presses beyond that, even if it's their favourite celebrity, it's a manipulation and not real.

Your line of reasoning makes sense to me. Tech has made it easier for adults to be predatory, but there are adults who'll prey on kids IRL.

I wish we as a society had more discussions about equality and power. It's most important with minors, but I see so many undergrad and grad students not get that the young-acting faculty still has considerable power.

One thing I always liked that my parents did was take me seriously about when someone made me uncomfortable. If I told them a man made me feel weird, they would reassure me i didn't have to be around him anymore. It encouraged me to trust my gut feeling and not dismiss my own concerns.

I like that about your parents, too.

Me feeling uncomfortable around people (including family members) or not wanting to be touched as a little kid really fucked me up as a young person and adult. I thankfully am unlearning but old beliefs and habits die hard.
