Billy Joel was recently asked about Adele, and he responded that she is "a phenomenal singer, kind of a Streisand throwback." He went on to compliment Taylor Swift as well, remarking that she is "a very talented girl, and she’s productive and keeps coming up with great concepts and songs, and she’s huge. You have to give her high marks. She knows music, and she knows how to write. She’s like that generation’s Beatles."

In 2014, he also complimented Swift when he said she was a “talented songwriter.” He also said, “She catches a lot of junk, maybe because she’s so popular with young girls. But I like what she’s projecting. I respect what she’s doing.”

Last year, with the re-release of Fearless, Swift topped the UK's Official Albums Chart, beating a long-held record by The Beatles. The album hit number 1 in the UK, and with that Taylor racked up three #1 albums (Fearless, Folklore, and Evermore) in 259 days. This beat The Beatles' record, which took 364 days to get number 1 rank with 3 albums in a row.
