I can't remember exactly how it goes, but when Ross sleeps with the copy shop girl and is trying to trace who knows and how it can get back to Rachel, he finds that a woman who works with Phoebe knows. The woman says she won't tell Phoebe but she has already told her roommate, Gunther. Then Ross begs Gunther not to tell Rachel and Gunther says something like "Oh, should I not have done that?" He says it with no malice but it's so clearly letting Ross know he fucked up and he's going to pay.
