i always find it so sad that when americans discover a canadian show the actors immediately leave the country for more money. and i get it for them, i do, but the canadian film and tv industry is just being absolutely strangled by america. it just sucks that america liking something canadian means destroying it

I look at it as brain drain to the US because Canada is stagnant and can be very dumb. Why would anyone be in Toronto if they could instead be in NYC -_-. Beyond just more $$.

I feel like most of the people who think like that, have never actually been to the US (and especially not NYC lol)
Maybe it's just a personal bias, but when I went, all I could focus on was the pollution/litter, and all the rats I saw (in Toronto, I've seen one or two in the streets in my entire life tbh and I saw more than that in a few hours when I was there)

Stagnant and dumb arent the words i'd use but theres definitely less of a desire/culture for like...innovation and re-investment in Canada. So its stifling for some more ambitious people? I guess?

I know exactly what you mean. And when i was growing up people kept telling me if i want to make a "good life" i should leave Canada for the US. Like maybe i want to stay and make where i live a better place? Contribute to my community? Its like that for soooo many fields.

yep... that's why I try to promote Canadian content when I can. When Cardinal came out, I for sure thought it would get the American treatment but I'm glad it stayed a little Canadian gem and wasn't brought over to a diff network or anything along the way.

there is so much talent in Canada, between actors, musicians, writers... over the last decade or two, there has been so much great content and it bugs the shit out of me when other Canadians bitch about it sucking/not existing because it just means they're not taking it in/making the effort to actually look into it more.
