Damn, The Last Duel really underperformed. I see it has 7.7 on IMDb, so I guess is not bad.

Looking at the box office this year, people are only going to the movies to see action or horror.

Besides Free Guy, did another comedy killed it at the Box Office this year? I know it has action too but It was funny

The Last Duel was great; Ridley Scott's best film since at least Matchstick Men, and possibly since Thelma & Louise.

But I'm not sure I'd call it an underperformance. Historical dramas (and really, dramas in general) just don't perform at the box office anymore. I was kind of surprised the studio greenlighted this, because even pre-pandemic this seemed like a box office loser no matter the quality. Which sucks, because these days you can seemingly only get big money from one kind of movie.

Damn! That’s a lot of praise. If that’s the case then I hope PVOD saves it. Eventually it will be known, there are a lot of classics that were flops at the box office

I saw Halloween kills and the last duel this weekend and I’m genuinely disappointed Halloween is raking in the money because it is
SO
BAD.

I’m on board with the assessment that TLD is his best movie in years, it exceeded all expectations and didn’t fall into any of the pitfalls people expected

Is Ben's performance his best in a while like it's been lauded?

Certainly the most enjoyable performance he's given since Gone Girl. It's a supporting part, and quite unlike anything he normally does; from the trailers I thought he might be seriously miscast, but that turns out not to be the case at all.

I feel like small roles or ones where he's allowed to be not the plain jane straight white guy give him a little wiggle room. Def gonna watch it when it streams.

Back in my teen years when I was a low key stan (sad for me) I always said Ben shone most in supporting roles. Dogma and Shakespeare in love were some of his best work.

I directed Matt & Ben in college so I have a soft spot for his wild ass.

The girl that played Ben accidentally spilled her chips on the floor during a performance and straight up ate them off the floor. A move I would not put past him.

No, not at all. Or at least he would 5-second-rule Dunkin. Good for her for going method.

Her parents were in the audience and the first thing I did after we finished was apologize and say that I'd never had her do that before and I'd offered to bring her more chips before that performance but ... damn.
