September 30, 2021 Venom: Let Their Be Carnage debuts tonight and critics are pretty pleased with the results.
The consenus is that the 90-minute film is quickly paced and incredibly dumb. Milage varies on the latter, as some critics find the stupidity enjoyable while others say it ruins the film.
Here's some highlights:
The Washington Post -- Fast, fun, and with a genuinely sweet story about friendship and self-acceptance.
The New York Times -- A slapsick bloodbath about couples who desperately need therapy.
IndieWire -- The film is at its best when its freak flag flies. Hardy has more fun here than anyone in the last dozen or so MCU films.
CNN -- A weird cross between Jekyll and Hyde and a buddy comedy, with uninspired comedy.
The film currently has a 67 on Rotten Tomatoes and a 51 on Metacritic, both significally higher than scores for the first (30 and 35, respectively).
