Tyra Banks wore a burgundy House of JMC dress on last night's episode of Dancing With the Stars that went viral. Banks' stylist Eric Archibald said in a statement that he and his costylist Natalia Barzilai added the gloves to make a "bold statement." He said that the goal was to highlight the host's amazing figure and said that he and his team "only had a few days" to pull off the "masterpiece." Archibald added that he'd asked couture designer Julian Mendez to "build the gown fit for a Queen."
Twitter couldn't help but compare the dress to farfalle pasta and / or a Dilophosaurus, among other things.
Following the episode, Banks addressed the viral reaction, telling E! News‘ “Daily Pop”, the dress was a nod to her supermodel roots.
“There’s a base of that dress. It looks like a normal, beautiful dress from the ’90s,” Banks revealed. “Then I go on the stage in front of the audience and everybody, and I put on the wing thing. And everybody was like, ‘Oh!’ because they thought the first thing was the normal dress.”
“I call it Victoria’s Secret wangs. It’s not wings. It’s got an ‘A,'” she added. “That’s how we did it.”
Next week, DWTS will be Britney Spears week where all competing dancers will honor the pop star's discography with dance routines.
