They got biracial actresses for roles that are specifically intended for them. It's really been irking me that when you see Black actresses in prominent roles these days they are more than likely to be mixed. They've become the standard. The go-to when casting roles intended for Black women. I have a lot of feelings about this topic. 😅

it's not just "these days" though, lighter skinned actors have always been given prominent roles.

That's true. My line of thought however is that they are exclusively using biracial actresses. Just because someone is light-skinned doesn't mean they are mixed.
