I'd say it's better in some ways. I remember in 2008 arguing with guy friends that 'no, having sex with a drunk passed out girl is NOT fucking right' and my stance was considered unpopular at the time.

Times were wild. As someone told me, "What if she wakes up and she's totally into it?" Enthusiastic Consent wasn't a thing either, it was more 'as long as she doesn't say no'. If she was drunk, and impaired, she was seen as an easy prospect. "She had too much to drink so she could barely utter no? She should have thought of that before drinking so much." This was also before it was a bad thing to be a 'Nice Guy'. Didn't want to kiss a 'Nice Guy' and he told me I was selfish.

What are everyone's favorite books on Feminism? Everything I've found has been very white feminist and that's a big nope for me.

Honestly. The early 2000s were an absolutely shit time to be in highschool & college as a woman ( ... )

I didn't connect with Bridget Jones or SATC when I was in college.
At the time I chalked it up to not being the right demo for it, since those things were about older gen x women instead of millennials.

But no, it turns out it was just crap (sorry fans)

I am still unpacking a lot of self hatred and internalized nonsense from coming of age in that era.

I think the rubber band effect with the 90s and having Bush in office as well as the more conservative view a lot of Americans had post 9/11 helped with some of this

Let’s be real though, it’s really fucking depressing when my mom will watch movies made in the 30s and the biggest issues are misogyny, racism, and class. Still the biggest issues we have today which show how shit humans are.

Yes, most postfeminist theorists say that it dovetails with conservatism of the 90s and neoliberalism, to the point where some say postfeminism is in fact a gendered neoliberalism.
