Me either. Or most of its nominations. Especially acting, like…the Tonys should’ve been the only show those types of nominations were eligible for.

I get being nominated for technical stuff that helped bring the production to TV but other than that nah man

It's the recording of a years old performance, everything else in the category has been produced recently.
I'd call it nomination fraud tbh, it should not be nominated.

i don't know how that matters. Its the airing time that matters, not the recording time.

Since it has been on stage so long I do think it matters. Otherwise recordings of things from even longer ago could be thrown out to get these awards and that edges out all the contemporary work that is done and deserves the accolades.
I kind of see it like if a movie is aired on tv after the cinematic run, it's not supposed to be regarded for awards because it had it's chance at the Globes/Oscars/etc. and musicals/plays have their award chances for Tonys etc. during their runs.

Not like this tho…like these actors have been in the public conscience as Hamilton characters for years, they all swept the Tony’s for these performances freaking five years ago! To still be winning for something that old is just ridiculous

Idk, I think your argument is valid but I also like a non-traditional medium getting rewarded and would love to see more theatrically filmed performances succeed like this 🤷‍♀️

Also it does seem like category fraud. If the pandemic hadn’t happened that performance would still be sitting in a hard drive in a vault somewhere.

That’s not true, it was filmed as a film for theatrical release - originally scheduled for an October 2021 theatrical release

I'm pretty sure they had no release plan or date when it was filmed though, this is Disney grabbing for awards they don't deserve.

Yup and he’s got plenty of chances for an Oscar this year in Best Original Song. That new song from In the Heights and he’s got 10 new songs on the Encanto soundtrack for Disney. If BSO is as dead this year as it sounds, I can see him campaigning hard for that Oscar.
