I’ve only watched the first episode but was surprised they used Vince Foster’s suicide as a plot device. They’re taking a few liberties (as is to be expected) but I’m liking the characterization of Linda so far.
But by all accounts, Linda Tripp was in fact very affected by Vince Foster's death, and if I remember correctly, it will pop back again during the impeachment hearing and/or in motivating what she did. (I think she thought the Clintons did not care enough to protect Foster/let his name be sullied. But my memory may be faulty.)
Oh that's definitely not where this is leading. It's been exploited by the right as suspicious, but there's been multiple inquiries and it's all nonsense. Linda Tripp always knew Foster died by suicide because he had been under tremendous pressure in the first few months of the Clinton administration. Foster was part of the WH Counsel and it was one crappy thing after another... He was getting a lot of blame for firings to the WH Travel Office and appointments to positions that weren't going ahead as they should. Foster was an Arkansas friend of the Clintons who had come to work at the WH at their behest. If I remember correctly, Linda Tripp thought the Clintons very disloyal for not sticking up for Foster, leading him to suicide. Then, how poorly Bill Clinton treated Monica was just another nail in that coffin and she wanted him to pay for it. This is sort of what I remember from the Slate Slow Burn podcast from a few years ago. But I may be mixing up details.
Fascinating! I’ll need to check out that podcast. Yes- it’s a conspiracy perpetuated by Alex Jones and other radical conservatives, so I had a brief moment of ‘oh shit I hope they’re not going there’

Interesting! I didn’t know this. I was a bit worried they were gonna go the tin-foil hat route and make his death look like a suspicious murder.
