To no one's surprise, 'Dear Evan Hansen' is fucking terrible

DEAR EVAN HANSEN: VERY bad. We must throw Ben Platt in movie jail and revoke his Tony for this all-time bad performance, but let Julianne Moore arrest him because she’s the saving grace in this poorly realized and tone-deaf trainwreck that hits much differently on screen #TIFF21

I saw a touring version and I honestly barely remember it. I was so whelmed

It’s a piece of shit property in any form AND Ben platt is talentless and unappealing. (Not even hot!) It’s like Hamilton but even worse, somehow.

How are you even comparing this to Hamilton?

Oh damn this is a bold Hamilton opinion lol. (I like it but I do think it’s a little overrated)

Hamilton being overrated and bad is a common opinion here. Everyone hates LMM.

They didn't used to. But then they realized he was a theater kid... And then he opened his mouth and started saying stupid shit... And then he only cast light-skinned actors in his movie.... Bloop!

dozens of us hated it before it was cool to dunk on lmm

Even recognizing LMM's annoyingness/problematiqueness, I still think Hamilton is a great musical (Say No To This apologism aside).

ONTD's nuanced opinions strike again. LOL

Dear Evan Hansen wishes it was on the same planet as Hamilton. DEH was good enough when I saw it live, but it certainly didn't blow my mind. It's also not the kind of musical I thought would work as a movie because its heightened emotionality usually works better live than on screen. I'm not surprised the movie is not so good.

That said, people can maybe argue that Hamilton is overrated or flawed, but to say it's outright bad is ridiculous. The epitome of "tell me you know nothing about musical theatre without telling me you know nothing about musical theatre."

Hamilton is bad. Claiming that my opinion about it proves my ignorance about the genre is specious snobishness and says a lot about you and nothing about me. God bless.

Look you can't have hot takes like that with a non-100x100 icon, sorry.

Like Hamilton or not, this movie will never have a hundredth of the cultural impact of Hamilton. I knew stuff about Hamilton before ever seeing it. I knew the songs and memes.

I thought DEH was a movie about a gay kid until I saw the trailer.

You mean it’s not about a gay kid? I thought the same thing. Oops.
