I've never watched the original movies so I don't care for this very much but I love sequels that are made so much later that the original protagonists have aged. I think it's really fun. I liked that with Blade Runner as well.

Anyway I might watch the first movies so I can see this in the theater because these types of movies are fun on a large screen.

I am not even into sci-fi and I love these movies, so i'd definitely give them a watch (and maybe a rewatch)

I feel like there's already been an ONTD movie night of the original Matrix, but I'd be so down for like...a day / weekend where people watch all three.

ooh i'd love that! who cares if we've done it before tbh...maybe closer to the release of this one (Dec. 22)? as long as it's not a netflix party post, i'm in. I think that format is alienating, and I like being able to go back and comment later to people like on every other post here. commenting here works better for people in different time zones or and countries or watching on different services.

The Matrix (original) is absolutely a fantastic, ahead of its time pill that had huge cultural impact, SO worth watching. The sequels... are OK.

the first one is a bonafide sci-fi/pop philosophy classic (it was taught as part of the freshman humanities seminar at my university lmao) and the action scenes still hold up!

and honestly it has a satisfying enough tie-up as a standalone that you don't reallyyyyy need to watch the sequels t b h

The first matrix is one of my favorite movies and I watch it all the time. And the CGI is so good that it still holds up 20 years later. Fantastic movie,
