What great lengths has he gone to?

I mean, celebrities don't publicly announce their splits the day after they happen. It's often weeks or even months later, especially if they aren't the types to get photographed often or a ton of media attention, there really isn't a need.

Yeah, this is all a reach. Not everyone shares these things the moment that they happen.

I took his ex-wife's statement about being "heartbroken" as more that she wasn't prepared for it to be announced, or she had hoped he would change his mind rather than announce it (since she also made it apparent that he had filed and he wanted it, not her). She had already deleted him from all of her social media and they unfollowed each other the previous fall / winter, it's likely they had already split by then.

I'm not a Mulaney fan that's here to explain away his messiness because I like him - because this is all very messy, lol. I just think the timeline he gave matches the other things we know.

Was his ex-wife completely delusional? If they were living together he could easily have given her the impression reconciliation was possible. His timeline lines up as much as this other one does - I'm not really sure why he gets any benefit of the doubt.

he gets the benefit of the doubt because so many people like him for some reason. He looks like a douche bag, so I have never even listened to him at all - he could be hilarious, but he's still just another shitty white dude and there are plenty of funny women around to make me laugh.

Reddit figured out within minutes that he gave two interviews in December of last year where he's still living with his ex wife and talking about her, so him saying they split up in September might not be true. It definitely seems like he's trying to clean up his timeline which makes it seem like there must be a reason.

Couldn't that just be a response to the rampant cheating speculation? Also him talking about her could have been because they were leaving the door open to work things out at the time, who knows really. People will believe what they want regardless, I think it just becomes a problem when people go forward acting like their speculation is fact.

I honestly agree with you - what I posted in my other comment was what reddit had posted and I haven't watched either of the interviews from December. From what I think of the situation is that he and Anna had gotten separated but perhaps she thought they might be able to work things out long term if he committed to sobriety and also her not knowing he'd (allegedly) been fuckin around which maybe is why she was "heartbroken John asked for the divorce"? Idk. I do think it's easier for John to say "Oh my wife is right in the other room!" To Kimmel rather than say she moved out though - but like I said, I didn't watch the interview so I don't know what was said.

It's pretty common to not move out immediately (or stop talking to the other person) when you break up with someone you cohabitate with / own shared property with tbh. I also think it was just a strange, confusing time for him in general - December was when his friends staged an intervention, he was apparently doing a lot of cocaine, and he checked himself into rehab. Even if he was still living at their place, it doesn't mean they were together, and that doesn't mean she wasn't still trying to help him (especially since he wanted the divorce and she didn't).

Again, I have to state I'm not a Mulaney fan and I'm not defending him lmao. Maybe he did cheat, idk. I just think that there are a lot of people who want to see the Most Dramatic Version of this story above all else.

That was what reddit said, I personally think if his wife had moved out like a month and a half prior, he would probably just lie and say "Oh yeah, she's right in the other room! We're having a great time!" rather than admit to Kimmel what was going on HOWEVER I didn't watch either interview so I don't know what was said.

Yeah, I have no idea what's in the interview apart from being saying "Well he mentioned his wife back in December," so I don't really know any details tbh.

He mentioned her and was still wearing his wedding ring, but coupling that with Olivia Munn's tweet in that same month sending him love as he went to rehab and him saying he met/started dating her in spring is just all round sketch in my opinion.

Yeah, it feels like a lot of people don't have any concept of how the break-up of a marriage goes when you share items and property and pets.

It's one of those things where he could have cheated but it could equally just be the messy way relationships sometimes end.

Yeah I really think the only times he's talked about it or released statements is because he's felt he had to. Relationships and marriages don't often have clean breaks. People try to make it work for awhile or it takes time to fully separate.

Frankly, based on what's been said it sounds like he was separated, maybe trying to make it work for awhile before finally ending it idk, and then he had a rebound thing with Olivia and she surprisingly got pregnant. In any scenario it sounds very difficult for those involved.
