In Mindy Kaling's essay Big Shot, she says that in 2016 she spent the holidays with her family in Honolulu. While having Christmas dinner at Duke's in Waikiki, the waiter told her that another celebrity was having dinner at the same restaurant.

What's really throwing me off about this is the "movies that literally every American pretends to hate but secretly loves". I can't think of a middle-aged A-List actor involved with that kind of franchise or series of movies.

At first I was thinking Shia LeBeouf and Transformers (idk, maaaaaybe he was considered A-list in 2016?), but he's definitely not middle aged.

Then I was thinking Bill Murray and all his Wes Anderson movies, but he's also definitely not middle-aged.

Idk, Vin Diesel????? But then he wasn't in anything while she was "growing up".

Idk, the general American movie-going public loves a lot of stupid bullshit movies.

Same here. I think the people saying Adam Sandler upthread are probably more likely to be correct, but my mind immediately went to Cage bc of the bit about "American pretending to hate his movies but secretly loving them."
