There are a couple of decades between Chanel's Nazi past and DG's recent 'past'.
I do get weirded out when people are fannish over Coco herself or consider her their icon - that she was a Nazi agent is literally in the wikipedia, it's impossible to miss.
Also, Chanel left France right after liberation, she didn't reopen her fashion house until the 50s (with money from the Wertheimers!), and she was not popular in France at that point. Her support came from Brits and Americans, who were generally more forgiving of collabos.
Obviously D&G are not as bad as Nazi agents, but Americans being quick to forgive fancy racists is pretty on brand for us.
from what I understand that family still owns chanel brand so good for them, almost all the big fashion houses fell/were sold to big corporations like kering, LVMH.
