I made the huge mistake of thinking Vacation Friends would be a mildly entertaining movie to watch over the weekend in the background and I gravely misjudged and regret that decision.

I feel that nobody is talking about the fact that it has [Spoiler (click to open)]implied rape, if not actual rape in it and immediately after that revelation came to light I turned it off. I have no idea if it actually did happen or not, and don't care. I'm so fcking tired of those "jokes"

yeah i did enjoy the movie but was NOT a fan of that "joke", how are we not past that type of shit, it's 2021 ffs

i was explaining that scene to my brother when he asked about the movie and we were just like "if they did that scene with a woman people would be pissed." but i guess because it was with a man it's funny?! so disgusting!!

ohmigod THANK YOU for talking about this. that scene put such a bad taste in my mouth and i was shocked but then unsurprised no one talked about it. i was hoping it was just a one off bad joke but [Spoiler (click to open)]it's not because the white chick gets pregnant so for half the movie lil rel thinks the baby is his and even claims it at the rehearsal dinner or something? it was so uncomfortable

Yeah I had the same reaction. I finished it and it's surprise, not good or funny in other ways, but [spoilers] that plotline is disgusting and I don't know how people are still getting away with it in 2021. They walk it back a little with the reveal of what happened later in the movie, but there's still zero awareness of how severe impairment impacts consent, and the entire narrative drive is focused around whether or not the male character "cheated"

Agreed. I look out for these posts every week! I've heard about so many amazing films that I probably never otherwise would have learned about.
