I don't think she's caping for him at all. she knew him as a child. she's speaking about their relationship on even stevens almost 20 years ago as child stars. how that effected her, how his fame eclipsed hers. she even mentions that she's sober and wouldn't want to have a relationship with someone who doesn't respect that. I think that's a simplification of what she's saying, and if you respond to this with "she wished him well though"--I mean, she's just trying to be an adult here and only respond to her personal relationship to him from way back when they were kids. she doesn't know him anymore, and hasn't for a very, very long time. she knew nothing about his personal life even when they worked together, according to this article.

"Know that I love you" is a sentiment she should have kept to herself. Clearly she keeps up with him enough to know he's struggling with something considering her comments so I'm sure she's aware of the domestic violence allegations around him. Her reasons are all well and good but to publicly share this when we all know what he's done is disrespectful at best towards his victims.

here's the video from the source. if that's your takeaway from watching this, then I guess we have different opinions of who christy is. I don't think she ever really liked him at all. it was pretty obvious at the time. I think she's just trying to be the bigger person since she's being asked about him constantly, and their names are linked because of the show, for better or worse.
