Disney Seeks to Force Scarlett Johansson Suit to Arbitration

“After initially responding to this litigation with a misogynistic attack against Scarlett Johansson, Disney is now, predictably, trying to hide its misconduct in a confidential arbitration,” Johansson's attorney John Berlinski said in a statement https://t.co/pa1uDc8c31

Why is Disney so afraid of litigating this case in public? Because it knows that Marvel’s promises to give ‘Black Widow’ a typical theatrical release ‘like its other films’ had everything to do with guaranteeing that Disney wouldn’t cannibalize box office receipts in order to boost Disney Plus subscriptions. Yet that is exactly what happened

I’m not on Disney’s side here, but there is still a pandemic happening. I live in a house with people with compromised immune systems and none of us are still willing to go out with the delta variant. I’ve been happy about these releases online because movie theaters even pre pandemic were cesspools to get sick. So to say this is all for Disney plus subs I think is bullshit for me.

tbh this is why i don’t feel too bad for scarjo, all of her lawyers’ statements are disregarding how it is a public health issue to fill up the movie theaters during a pandemic

but that's not what the lawsuit is about

and the fact that so many people think it is shows that the Disney propaganda is working

her lawyers are claiming that this whole thing is a conspiracy to boost disney+ subs with zero mention of the glaringly obvious pandemic that spurred such a move so i stand by what i said

Disney has their parks open right now, during the same obvious pandemic.

bc they’re greedy af and scarjo’s team shoulda known when they drafted the original contract. still don’t feel bad for her!

I don't feel bad either, doesn't make her lawsuit less legitimate. You can stop carrying the water for Disney.

where did i say i’m rooting for disney? i hope this blows up into even more drama for them bc they’re an evil conglomerate and need to be dismantled.

all i said is i don’t feel bad for her bc of her public statements and everyone whipped out their internet law degrees lol

You're the one saying her contract didn't cover "extenuating circumstances." If that's not whipped up internet law degree that passively defending Disney, I don't know what is.

i'd imagine the original contract was drafted and signed before they knew covid was even a thing considering the movie was filmed in 2019. scarjo also tried to renegotiate when covid hit, and disney ignored her. this is on them 100%

Her team would have been fine with the Disney+ release if she had received a part of the revenue generated through streaming.

They wanted to renegotiate, likely to get a deal similar to the one Gal Gadot got with
Warner / HBO Max.

Exactly, it's not that Scarlett wanted to keep Black Widow theater-only as part of her artistic vision or some shit, it's that Disney ghosted her when she asked to renegotiate to allow a dual release without screwing her out of her cut. She signed a contract back before COVID when it was unthinkable that theater chains who make a wide release possible would allow a simultaneous release. AMC's Universal ban after Trolls 2 proves it - and that's why studios didn't all immediately jump to streaming.

They’re “disregarding” it because it’s irrelevant to the crux of the issue…

the crux of the issue is that her contract didn’t say shit about extenuating circumstances…like a pandemic…so here we are
