Louisiana has a pretty decent sized Catholic population, especially southern parts of the state.

Because a lot of people there have ancestors who are French. There was a big migration of French living around Nova Scotia to south Louisiana after they “left” Canada-those are the Cajuns. And they were Catholic and are still heavily so.
