Alan Cumming was invited to do a screen test for the second Harry Potter movie but he ended up turning it down and he claims he told the producers to fuck off.
Why?
Money, of course.
He and Rupert Everett shared the same agent at the time and both actors were offered a screen test for the role of Professor Lockhart. Alan claims he was told a specific sum for pay and that he was told there was no money in the budget to pay him more. He found out from his agent that they were going to pay Rupert more, causing Alan to withdraw from the audition process.
Alan said “And (I) thought, well Rupert’s going to get the part. They made him screen test, and I remember he brought his own wig. And then they fucking gave it to Kenneth Branagh, came out of the shadows.”
