i really want to start reading more. i need to get more sleep and i know not having blue light screentime too close to bed is a good way to improve sleep, so i figure reading is a good thing to do instead. but does anyone know if ereaders that aren't backlight (so front or side or the backlight can be turned off) count as that kind of tech to avoid before bed?

also, anyone that has any book recs about f/f couples, combative/complex sisters or just complicated dynamics between women in general, please do share.

The Cranes Dance by Meg Howrey

It's one of my fave books. I really wish Howry would go back to writing adult novels.

For complicated dynamics between women, I highly recommend Elena Ferrante's Neapolitan series. It's really good.

If you want something super quick and like book versions of popcorn flicks I would recommend

The Girl in the Mirror by Rose Carlyle. This is a thriller about twin sisters.
The Hunting Wives by May Cobb. Also thriller-esque but it's a mess of a novel about this woman who becomes obsessed with the leader of the local mom group.

I guess it would depend on the ereader. I know the Kindle Oasis has the warm light feature, but it's pricier than the regular paperwhite, and I'm sure Kobo and other ereaders have this feature as well.

this article and this article says that yes they do emit a small amount, [more on that]

"The Kindle Paperwhite emits significantly lower levels of blue light than normal digital screens, and so doesn’t have a built-in blue light filter. Its backlight assembly is 4-5 LEDs, which emit much lower levels of blue light than normal screens.

In short, the designers didn’t feel it was a necessary edition because the screens are designed differently. In fact, the backlight assembly on a Paperwhite isn’t behind the screen; the LEDs are in a rack at the bottom, shining upwards.

This does actually mean you have less blue light entering your eyes because it’s not shining at you, it’s pointing up across the screen. This means that it’s still possible to use the device in the dark without too much eye strain."
