The German women's gymnastics team has forgone bikini-cut unitards in favor of full-body versions at the Tokyo Olympics as a statement against "sexualization." The suits cover the legs to the ankle and are in contrast to the high-cut leotards worn by many other female gymnasts.

The Norwegian women's beach handball team has been fined after players opted to wear shorts instead of bikini bottoms during a European championship game. The team want women to be able to have a choice of what they wear. The uniform regulations could discourage women from playing the sport.

Double world champion para-athlete Olivia Breen was left angry and speechless after being told to wear "more appropriate" shorts. An official at the English Championships told her the briefs were "too short and revealing". She was highlighting the incident to stop it happening to others.
"You know they can't comment on what we can and can't wear. I've worn them for nine years, I've never had a problem and we should feel comfortable with what we wear. We want to be as light as possible when we're competing, not having to feel heavy, and to feel comfortable. We should just wear what we're entitled to wear."
