It's all definitely toxic, but any STEM department is even more so according to people I know getting a PhD

Opted out of pursuing a PhD in the end, but have exclusively worked in academia until now, and yes, it’s a fucking terrible place with terrible pay for most people who aren’t tenured white men or someone with a bloated administrators salary 🥲

I've worked in customer service and I work in academia now and the amount of handholding that faculty and graduate students require is honestly killing me slowly.

Also nothing about accounting in universities make sense. That's what I want a show about - balancing the books lol

i worked as administrative staff at my university before coincidentally starting my phd here and..it is truly shocking both how bad at admin faculty and students are and also how entitled so many of them feel to admin's labor/efforts toward doing stuff they could so easily do themselves. i always feel so ridiculous and self-conscious interacting with my department's admin workers because they have to reach out to us in the context of doing so many things we should just be doing ourselves.

yes!!! I'm a department admin in the humanities now and it's insane how me how fucking incompetent academics are, even though I'm also the daughter of an academic. like jesus christ

the level of admin they're only ever asked to do is so straightforward, and it still ends up being so hard...truly ridiculous
