“People in the public eye get verified on social media,” he wrote in a statement, “the process of verification requires them to prove their identity...” He went on to write, in all caps, “SOCIAL MEDIA COMPANIES SHOULD MAKE THIS MANDATORY FOR ALL USERS.” Comparing private accounts on social media to “boarding a plane and not having to show I.D.”
This as a proposed response to threats and racism that exist on the Internet. However this could lead to (an even greater) loss of privacy or people getting doxxed.
