Aaliyah's Uncle Is Not Upset Normani Allegedly Sampled His Nieces Song

While Normani herself has credited Aaliyah as an influence on her new single Wild Side, her team claims her hit song One in a Million is not directly sampled.

After claims that her uncle and former manager Barry Hankerson was not feeling it he has now come out in support of Normani and the song kind of.

Before you read any further remember this is the same person who owns all of Aaliyah's masters and is the reason why 90% of her discography is not available online for fans to stream or buy.

He says that his niece "always encouraged young women pursuing their musical and entertainment careers, to achieve their dreams. I believe that Aaliyah would be very supportive of a young Black woman that chose to emulate her music and style."

Even though he is not pleased with how her team handled the alleged sampling he says, "I will not stand in the way of something that brings to light the incredible staying power of Aaliyah."

"So in that light, wishing Normani well with the song and overall career. God bless. I think Aaliyah would be pleased."

Barry did add that it would have been "more honorable" if the singer sought approval to sample the track first and also an attorney for Blackground confirmed the sample was never officially cleared for use.

Meanwhile producer Timbaland, who actually produced One in a Million in 1996 has shown his support for both Normani and Cardi B on social media.
