which is why piggybacking off his legacy / degenerative brain status is so nasty... this is all for gaga and being framed as if it's for tony...

What a weird, pathetically negative way to view this. They've been working together for over a decade now, and the love and respect they have for each other is clearly very genuine. Per Tony's wife, Tony made it clear before his public diagnosis that he wanted to put this album out as his last, and that Gaga has been nothing but supportive and respectful throughout this. Just because the guy has Alzheimer's, doesn't mean he can't still work and perform.

Who is he working for? Because they could get together and sing without all this. This is a lot of money and this pressure on Bennett.

I'm sure there is some label pressure behind this as it's a business, but all of this is being orchestrated by Tony's wife and team because they're the ones who know what he wants and likes. The idea that he should just kneel over and retire is weird. He has been doing this for 85 years because of how much he loves it. Let him go out doing what he loves.

I respect that to a degree. But I'm not very trusting when it comes to monetizing someone's likely last work.

Nobody is saying kneel over and retire! There are ways for him to work in a controlled setting without all of the pressure involved in performing in such a way. They could drop the album. They could shoot a music video. They could do a pretaped interview. The album's been ready for a while, pressings of the vinyl leaked months back. I don't understand how people can be happy about this, but then angry that Britney was forced to perform...

One thought I had is that I'm sure he loves performing and maybe he expressed a desire to perform one final time in his age, and in his age and disease I'm sure that having someone else with him on the stage makes it easier and more enjoyable. He obviously has loved performing with Gaga. But I get people's reservations, I personally don't think Gaga is trying to exploit him and I have never gotten the impression she would do something like this if it wasn't his wish.

Oh I wasn't thinking of gaga. But families can be...well, not always with pure intentions.

Oh yeah, I totally agree.

"pathetically negative" as is my right! God, why am I not allowed to criticize the motives of a rich, self-centred, disenengous award chasing pop star on this website??

Did you read the AARP article? Tony barely understands who she is at this point by the sounds of it. Now he's being trotted out on stage, after a pandemic that he doesn't understand and isn't actually even over? Who is that serving?? Him? Or all the other people who stand to make money / ~win emmys~ after he's gone?

Because there's no evidence to even suggest this is going to be recorded/filmed for any kind of award.

Yeah, I read it, and I believe his wife and team know better than we do. Tony's been at it for nearly a century. It makes sense he would want to go out swinging. I understand why people are viewing it this way, but y'all are not taking what Tony would want into account. His people are. I view this as a celebration of his life and a career that has lasted an astonishing 85 years.
