Grew up and went to school with her. I’ll agree this place can breed some terrible people but we were both fortunate to move out as soon as possible. She doesn’t really associate with the town anymore besides visiting her mom.
whats hard to get? theres no nuance in hollywood. we talk about the same thing on ontd. the answer to relegating women to nothing has become to throw a bunch of new archetypes that few of us can relate to. theres few women on screen with real flaws that are also accepted. a woman always has to ~represent something. fuck that. ofc theyre still mostly written by men who historically cant even really write nuanced men so.
"strong, empowered females" is such an icky phrase. I think it's because it reduces women to females and she's clearly leaving no room for nuance. If your friends aren't strong empowered women, you need to work on your friend circle, girl.
Here's the rest of the quote, maybe you'll find it enlightening instead of writing off everything she says just bc she brushes her teeth with coconut oil.

Because there's a lot underneath there that's messy, jealous, conspiratorial, competitive, kind, mothering, generous, thoughtful. There are so many aspects to it that I hope continue to be explored deeper."
Not that hard to understand. Women/female characters in Hollywood always have to represent some broader political project. We can't just be our full messy nuanced selves.

not that enlightening or difficult to understand and i'm sure you saw my facetiousness and took it 100% straight like this granola queen would but ok
idg what she's saying here. but again, i think, "shut the fuck up, shailene woodley."
ohhhh, wait.
Woodley grew up in Simi Valley, California, the daughter of two psychologists, a
i get it all, now.
