The Recording Academy has banned sales and charting bragging in Grammy 'For Your Consideration' ads

📢 The organization behind the Grammy Awards updated their rulebook and guidelines about the “For Your Consideration” ads submitted by labels and artists.

📢 For the 2022 Grammy Awards, the ads may not include “chart numbers, number of streams, sales figures, or RIAA awards.". This rule was not in last year’s guidebook.

📢 Also new in the Voter Code of Conduct section: “voters shall not allow their choices to be suggested, directed or influenced by anything other than their own analysis of merit, including, but not limited to: personal friendships, company loyalties, regional preferences, or sales volume/popularity”.

📢 There's been speculation these new rules might be related to the backlash due to The Weeknd being snubbed in the last Grammys, but fans of artists who rely in their fandom's mass buying power to secure sales records and high chart positions have also felt targeted, as such rules were previously implicit in the awards.
