Honeslty Im practically more disgusted by her parents for allowing this. Children having jobs should be flat fucking out ILLEGAL idc if that means no more shows like Stranger Things I really don’t. It should be AGAINST THE LAW to work, especially ESPECIALLY shit like acting/singing/~influencer shit.

It’s all nothing but a vat designed to take advantage of literal kids who can’t consent. Fucking repulsive.

I work in entertainment and whenever I get a call about minors, I typically get mad. It's always why can't we have the kids work for 12 hours instead of what's required by the state or other questions on how they can get away with whatever they want to film. I argued with a guy who got mad that infants have to be 15 days old to work and he wanted a newborn and I was like people watching don't need to see a fresh out the womb baby. We all know 3 month olds are playing newborns you dumbass. And those infants should be hanging out being nurtured not on a freaking set. I feel gross about my job sometimes.

That makes me so angry. WTF was he thinking? A baby is not a puppet.

This was years ago but I still remember it so clearly. Then he said what if the parents consent and are okay with it, and I was like that's why we have state laws (which are still too lax imo) because sometimes parents aren't looking out for their children. I probably said it more professionally though when I wanted to scream WTF at the guy.

also in entertainment, former talent agent, and yeah, my boss was so against working with kids (she only repped 18 and above) cause the stage parents were the worstttt. they also costed her some big clients

how did the stage parents cost her clients? Not doubting at all! Just curious what they did

so before kids can go on set, parents have to get their work permits and coogan accounts (where part of the kid’s earnings go and can only be touched when the kid turns 18) before they can go on set. dad (who was also part of the shoot as the other actor) swore up and down he got it all done. he didn’t. production had to shut down and i think had to pay a fine, which really upset the client and they blamed my boss cause she was supposed to wrangle her talent, and they never worked with her again

My first reaction was where were her fucking parents in all this. After the whole thing with Drake. Wtf

Her parents are known social climbers who have completely abandoned their duty of care to their child and left her vulnerable to predators who can manipulate her by feeding her lies about how much they care about her, and since she’s probably completely starved for someone to make her feel safe, it works and here we are. To said predator discussing in explicit detail the sex acts he coerced her into doing online while his friends guffaw and victim blame/slut shame a MINOR.

Any parent willing do put their child in the spotlight has a derelict sense of parental responsibility who only view their kids as cash cows. There is NO changing my mind on this tbh.

Hollywood is fucked up. The shit people are allowed to get away with, neglecting the people they're supposed to care, from Britney to Millie, it's honestly so sad

I've said this before, but the more we've learned about the inappropriate behavior that kids in the entertainment industry are subject to, the more I've become totally fine with twenty-somethings playing teenagers on screen. Like, keep Ben Platt in high school shows, I don't even care.

Jenette McCurdy has been vocal about how awful and disgusted she is of the fact that there’s videos and shows of her and how much she wishes she had never acted and they didn’t exist, but because of her mother she has to live with that reality that those images of her can never, ever go away. Videos in this day and age are pretty much permanent. A child can’t even comprehend that, let alone give “informed consent”, so ia. No minor should be put on film, on FB, on TV, in movies, on Tik Tok until they are of age. We can just live with a dumb plastic baby like that Bradley Cooper flick.

100%

I don't agree with the desire to make films look more realistic anyway, especially in that vein. There are plenty of grown adults who could pass as teenagers who should be cast instead

Yep. I know some people on here mentioned that they feel less insecure when its actual-aged teens but lol fuck that.....get the 20-somethings to do it!

It's always incredible to see talented kids play roles so convincingly at such a young age. But like, very rarely have I heard of child stars making it out of the industry OK.
