In a newly unearthed interview clip making the rounds on Twitter, the singer was asked over her favorite animated character, to which she responded it was Cindy from The Boondocks, explaining that she relates to her. Said cartoon is known for its satirical representation of black caricatures, written by a black creator. With Cindy McPhearson, being a white girl known for her black accent, and “black” interests.

Prompting Twitter users to be indignant over her choice, saying that Billie relating to a white character whose entire personality rests on appropriating is concerning, since that character is for black people to laugh at only. With other faction defending her, claiming that people with no real problems will nitpick at any innocuous thing to fake outrage and these cases ultimately halting the advancement of real progress towards social issues, by turning these subjects into a joke.

The reason the singer expressed her liking to Cindy was because of her badass reputation and how much she loved that Cindy always defended her friends.
