What's the point of this when they barred schools from teaching critical race theory? Ya, it's a holiday but you're not allowed to say why its a holiday? I swear to God my hatred of politicians grows by the hour.

would critical race theory have been like a separate class, or would it be something integrated into your usual History class?

CRT is just addressing racial inequality and how the events of slavery and Jim Crow era still impacts our society and the treatment of Black and poc in all aspects of life. 26+ states (and counting) banned teachers from including that simple fact in History and social science classes.

These assholes want everyone to think slavery happened and it ended and now we live in this colour blind society where everyone is treated equal and skin colour doesn't factor into anything yay👍🏾

The fact that they never heard of it until that orange bitch brought it up and made it seem like it was this evil Negro agenda to punsh yts, brainwash the youth and take over society. It's exhausting, I hate life😪

You're talking about state vs. federal legislation. They have not banned teaching of CRT at the federal level, and curriculum is up to each state.

It will be interesting to see how those states that have banned CRT explain this federal holiday.

I know it's state but they're acting like 22 states don't have a CRT bill and 5 haven't passed it.

Making Juneteenth a Federal holiday and not addressing the fact that two dozen states are actively denying the existence of systemic racism and the oppression of Black folks some descendents of those enslaved makes no fucking sense. This is just another white liberal circlejerk. Literally does nothing for society.

Tell that to all the Black women who've been working for 50 years to get it passed.

Federal and state legislation is different. This is still 100% better than when Trump and the GOP were running everything. If John Roberts hadn't gutted the Voting Rights act, we wouldn't be where we are today. Things don't get fixed overnight.

Schools never taught critical race theory outside the university setting and we shouldn't be repeating that conservative dog whistle of a talking point. What's actually being barred from schools is any analysis of US history that acknowledges racism to begin with.

Yes, CRT in the Academic level isn't/wasn't taught to kids, I don't think anyone thinks 5th graders were out here quoting Fannie Lou Hamer. But these bills are using it as an umbrella term to cover all lessions on race and racism and it's root cause. And I used it because that's what everyone knows these bills as.

Not a single high school and frankly most undergraduates can or do provide the foundation to even begin to teach CRT. what people banned was teaching history.
