I don't even go to throw the trash out when it's already dark (we have this little building with trash cans where everybody from my complex throws their trash out and I wouldn't want to be trapped with somebody while it's dark).

And I live in a relatively friendly neighbourhood.

no it wouldn't be safe and if something happened to you you would've gotten the "well...you DID go out alone at midnight, so..." attitude.

I often think of how nice it would be to go for a walk during the night in the summer but I doubt I'll ever dare to.

yeah that's not safe where I live. even when I wake up super early I usually wait until it's 7h30 am to take a walk. before that it's way too dangerous.

It’s safe where I live but I also wouldn’t ever go out if it’s dark outside.

Yeah I wanted to start biking like at 4am before it gets to hot - but yeah... I know not a lot of people won't be out at that time especially during the week. But still you never know, I even bought pepper spray but i still decided against it :/

I live in a super safe area and I still wouldn't go for a walk by myself in the night. There just aren't enough other people around to feel safe.

A few years ago, my dog urgently needed to go out during the 3AM hour, and I was so scared the entire time. She was giant, but a total cream puff and she was ALWAYS wanting to go on walks before dawn. I wish we could have.

Yeah fuck no.

It's been hilarious because my husband says he used to go running during that time on campus. I would NEVER. DRUNK PEOPLE ON CAMPUS AND RUNNING AT NIGHT? No thank you.

as an asian woman, i don’t even feel comfortable being out during the day in nyc anymore. it’s been better recently but i still get a lot of anxiety walking outside on my own regardless of time/day/night

I like to run early especially in summer before it gets hot. I feel comfortable before sunrise but usually 4:30 is the earliest I'd go. That time I feel like the sketchy people are in bed and the only people out and about are people on their way to work.

I had to take my son to the ER a few weeks ago but my car was parked a block away and it was 11pm. So I asked my oldest son, who is 15, to walk with me and drive back to pick up my other son. I needed my son to feel safe, which even just typing it out feels ridiculous.

(I talk to them about this stuff all the time. It hits them hard when their own mother makes it clear she feels safer in their company at night simply because they’re male.)

I took out the trash at 1am last night, had the exact same thought, and reached the same conclusion.
