My theory is that actors that need to do method acting are lacking empathy or something, as they can't understand their character unless they *are* the character. Most method actors are assholes so I think my theory holds (I still love DDL roles though...)

Also, below (around 3:45ish I think) Stephen asks Anthony how he got into the role and Anthony is just like "IDK I just learned my lines and remembered them and came to set," that's it. And this truly was one of the most amazing performances I have ever seen.

He was amazing, I was crying at the end of the movie and just felt his pain as if he was there in front of me. Well-deserved Oscar.

It's all sad except maybe the first 10 minutes, I mean I think the trailer shows it clearly...

Same here. I was sobbing. His performance and the entire production of the movie were amazing.

But the movie also hit very close to home for me because right now my aunt and I are living with my 90-year-old grandfather (my grandma died last year) to help take care of him and he has early-onset dementia. Nothing like Hopkin's character in the film but there are definite similarities.

I'm sorry to hear that. I hope things are not unbearable and I wish you all the best ♥ I can only imagine how hard it must be.

the "i just learned my lines and remembered them and came to set" is also the approach Michael Shannon takes and he's incredible.

I still love DDL roles though

He's such an incredible actor but I get the impression that he's probably a pretentious ass irl

Still shocked at this reveal. I guess he was good at keeping his personal business relatively quiet because I had no idea, I only know him through his roles.

I will say I was super impressed with how he gave absolutely nothing away for why he was retiring after Phantom Thread. He truly does keep his life on lock.

He’s good at keeping his personal business quiet because you need a fax machine for the tea!

I don’t think there’s a whole lot of info out there on this but it was on that recent post here from that Buzzfeed breakup list if you wanna see it in the flesh!

I feel like Phantom Thread is somewhat autobiographical in a way for both PTA and DDL which.. says a lot (it's one of my favorite movies ever though).

That movie was amazing. Both my husband and I agree that Vicky Krieps was the star of that show.
