I don't even like Leo but he was great in The Departed and should've got his "sorry, bud" Oscar for that so it could've all been put to rest in 2006.

it was because of titanic and his behavior during award season when he wasn't nominated.

Leo always had pretty stiff competition all the years he was nominated.

I loved his performances in Wolf of WS and Djanjo.

Yeah I agree! Wolf of Wall Street was a great performance from him. That was such a weird obvious snub. It felt weird because it was almost like at that point The Academy wanted to be in on the "joke" too about Leo always getting snubbed, then when The Revenant came out it was like "alright we'll ease up, here ya go, big guy." The Revenant sucked and was oscar baity.

He should've won for Gilbert Grape or Catch Me If You Can, imo. But The Departed is a good choice too

the departed is my fave performance of his from his "older" years. he was still screamy in that role but was overall far more compelling than he was in some screamy roles since. that character really breaks my heart

I agree with what some have said- he should have won for Gilbert Grape or Basketball Diaries. I feel like people forget how good Basketball Diaries was. I watched the Reverent and thought it sucked pretty hard, actually. I also think I'm the only one who doesn't think WoWS was as great as so many people thought. I feel like that 'crazy guy' role has been done before.

I don't like him either but his filmography is so goddamn good.

Hell, he arguably should have won for What's Eating Gilbert Grape.

Catch Me If You Can is personally, my favorite Leo performance (I love that movie and he makes it) but also overlooked is his performance in The Aviator.

What I love about this thread is that everyone is pretty much picking not quite the same movie when it came to his best performances. I think that speaks a lot to the effort Leo puts in certain roles (and let's be honest, probably that he got a good director for those films too.)

Possibly controversial, but I think he should have won for Blood Diamond, as should have Djimon Hounsou.
A Zimbabwean accent is really, really hard for basically anyone who isn’t Zimbabwean.
