I have a super embarrassing story that also involves me lapsing on music royalty.
I was 19 or 20 at a record in store of my favorite band, rooney. I was talking to the keyboardist who I had a huuuuge crush on. He held up a record and was like, “have you checked this out? Do you like it?” or something like that. It’s been a while. 😂
The name looks familiar but I couldn’t place it in that moment. My ass goes… “oh I’m not really that into indie music. Y’all were like my first step into that scene…”

Later that night, I’m hanging with my friends and it hits me. IT WAS A MOTHER FUCKING BEACH BOY. 🤡🤡

if it makes you feel any better, I wouldn't know that album either. I don't think I know a single beach boys song, and I definitely don't know the members by name. it makes sense he would ask about it though, since the beach boys were a huge influence on rooney (I'm told)

OH MY GOSH!! I actually got tea on rooney! I was really big in the rooney world (online and in real life). I don’t say this proudly, haha, but rooney was a HUGE influence in my life.

My good friend was their web person and merch girl but also did so much more. All of the og guys sued Robert for not paying them. I believe they ended up settling out of court. This was like 5-6 years ago now. Robert is the only original member left. He’s still playing as rooney, but that’s because all of his solo shit flopped. He’s cashing in on Rooney’s “name” because that’s the only way he gets attention.

Lord! I could go on. He and I got into it one night & he remembered it yeeeears later. 😂😂

Yup. Robert is a Coppola & I think he has money on the other side. Nic cage is his first cousin and rumor has it that he bought them their first tourbus.
From what I’ve heard, everyone else is lovely and Robert is trash.
Granted, my friend had limited interaction with jason but he was always polite & cool when he was around. I liked coconut records too! Well, more nighttiming than Davy. This was my scene when I was younger, haha.

For real, rooney is probably the closest I’ve come to being a stan.

Yaaaah… he’s eccentric if you want to be nice, but really just a spoiled entitled rich kid at the end of the day. It’s been so long that I can’t remember a lot of the details outside of personal experiences. But yah, passive aggressive is VERY true. I called him out on something and he remembered YEARS later when he was doing solo stuff. 😂
