In the reunion, there's a part where they are talking about LeBlanc tripping then looking at his mark during an episode. Matthew says that he couldn't stand that Matty was getting a laugh so he threw himself into a take to get a laugh.

I don't know if it's insecurity or that his parents divorced when he was a teen then he had to move to Canada, but at one point Chandler says "I make jokes when I'm uncomfortable." & Perry seems to be like that too.

i think that he "couldnt stand" it is a bit of a an over exaggeration. it sounded to me like he just wanted to get in on the fun too.

the quote in context, his tone + the clip indicates to me that he was probably a goofball on set. it was funny tho ngl

I think Matthew seemed to have a lot of anxiety over filming in front of a live audience and not getting laughs.

That makes sense, some of his quips felt a little awkward to me and I wonder if more of them were edited out if they did fall really flat, and so maybe that’s why he doesn’t appear to speak much overall

It was similar in the interviews with the other guys before the reunion aired, you see him really trying to make jokes about everything until it became a little cringey/awkward. It’s definitely very Chandler-like though in how Chandler had to turn absolutely everything into a joke to overcompensate for his insecurities

What I found super intresting was that the men and Lisa were surprised. Jennifer definitly wasn’t surprised.

i think matthew has always been closest to jennifer and courteney so if jen or both were unsurprised that kind of makes sense.

Yeah that’s been my impression. All the catch ups he’s been shown have been with those two.

And it’s probably that he and Jen are significantly younger than the rest of the cast and him being anxious prob struggled a bit.
