ONTD Exclusive: The Rise of Deux Moi's Faux Gossip
ONTD-ers, assemble! We may be but a shadow of the community we once were but we're still sourced and we still have standards - Something this new, steadily rising rat in the gossip community doesn't have! I'm talking, of course, about Deux Moi, a community I know from reading y'all's comments that a number of you belong to and some of you unfortunately believe. Before we talk about why we should mmmmmmm maybe not, let's catch up the rest of the class!
So what is Deux Moi?
I know not everyone here is familiar so let's start from square one. Deux Moi is an Instagram page that is very light on the grid posts and almost exclusively story posts, all sent by anonymous insta users, ranging from spottings of celebs accompanied by amateur paparazzi shots to tips from alleged insiders about what their celeb bosses are up to or what people overhead at the salon.
Pretty innocent, right?
Well, not really.
Deux Moi started gaining traction pretty fast and people started paying attention - People ranging from the press, who began writing up Deux Moi stories using the insta as a source, to celebs who seem to be using Deux Moi as an outlet to plant stories, to stans who want to make everyone think their fave is an unproblematic baby.

Harry Styles stans have co-opted Deux Moi to get her to post fake stories about their boi
Edited to add: Stans of The Bachelor have also admitted sending in fake tips to Deux Moi, causing The Bachelor subreddit to ban Deux Moi posts and ask users to stop repeating Deux Moi rumors as fact.
Why should we care?
Well, because this sucks! We all have to remember how Lainey Gossip literally ruined the career of Gretchen Mol with a blind item alluding the fact that she allegedly slept with Weinstein for roles. Duex Moi's brand of anything goes gossip with no consequences being repeated as fact in press outlets is going to make another Gretchen Mol out of someone sooner rather than later.
The first story I kept seeing that made me really pay attention to this whole thing was this blind item -
People kept attributing it to John Mulaney, so much so that people in the comment sections here were saying that "he had a reputation for hiring sex workers". John Mulaney, however, has never directed a movie. (This has been discussed in previous posts so I will mention it here: The blind item appears to be alluding the Jon Stewart as the post lines up with the release of the movie he directed, Irresistible. That doesn't mean I believe it's true though!)
As soon as the Mulaney divorce story broke, Deux was blowing up with questionable stories with timelines that didn't make sense from users who had overheard info about the Mulaney divorce months ago~ and had the inside scoop about all the other marriages Olivia Munn had broken up - Including Josh Duhamel and Fergie.
If you're wondering why did Henry Cavill posted an Instagram recently going on and on about how his relationship is very real, well, you can blame Deux Moi for insinuating it wasn't to her near one million followers.
The person who runs the Deux Moi account itself is also extremely biased about which celebs she likes and dislikes. If you don't know anything about Jack Quaid, just follow Deux Moi for a few weeks. You'll know where he eats, what he wears, and what Duex Moi wants to fancast him in. (Will someone get this lady a Tumblr, please!) All of this pushing of select actors, brings us to another issue, which is the suspected undisclosed ads for Amazon, Hulu and Netflix content Deux Moi pushes, as well as "Wow, guys, check this out" posts that read a lot like sponcon but never disclose that they're sponcon.
So what can we do? Nothing much! But we can call out the bullshit when we see it and be aware of what gossip comes from what sources. If something comes from Deux Moi, we can not spread it and we can remind others that Deux Moi is not a legitimate source.
If you ever look at the Deux Moi subreddit, you'll see that the tides are already turning against Deux and people who have been long term followers have unfollowed, their last straw being anything from the undisclosed ads to Deux Moi's posts telling redditors to get a life.
We might be jackals but at least we are ethical jackals with sources! No need for anon, plz! Happy gossiping.
