Hilary Duff Discovers The Word “Cheugy,” Is Concerned She Might Be Cheugy

May 13, 2021 17:55

Hilary Duff, 33, took to her Instagram Stories yesterday (May 12) to share a clip of herself with her newborn daughter Mae. In the clip, La Duff expressed her concern after learning the definition of a “new” slang term “cheugy,” fearing it just might describe the actress herself.

“Listen, guys, I’ve been stressing for days about this,” Duff said. “Ever since I heard the word? Fear overcoming my mind. Like, am I cheugy? Are you cheugy? Do you know if you're cheugy?"

She continued, “Is someone who’s cheugy aware of it? Is it a big deal to be cheugy? What the fuck is going on?”

[The New York Times on Cheugy]
How does one define "cheugy"? It’s not embarrassing or even always negative. “One of my friends said lasagna is cheugy." https://t.co/4g0ErtDY1i pic.twitter.com/nGAkOI7UeE

There’s a certain trying-too-hard aesthetic that isn’t quite “basic” or “uncool” - but what is it?

A term gaining popularity on TikTok may fit the bill: “The word, my friend, is ‘cheugy.’” https://t.co/0Y9jIrUssM

[Jim Belushi is confused...]
My daughter keeps making fun of me, calling me “cheugy” and I have no idea what that means.

But jokes on her because now I’m going to work that word into my vocabulary until she thinks it’s lame.

ONTD, are you cheugy?

Are you ‘cheugy’?

😎The term 'cheugy' (chew-gee) is being used by Gen-Z to describe Millennials who are just “slightly off-trend” and perhaps not as cool as they think they are.

So, does your style 'scream cheug'?

[Another Cut]
💭Of course, trying to keep up with what Gen-Z thinks is cool at any given moment in time is a fool's errand.

Using the word cheugy has already been deemed cheugy itself. This thread is definitely cheugy.

Here are the sartorial signs that you might just be a little cheugy👇

🧥 Denim Jackets 🧥

No Gen-Zers can explain why the denim jacket is cheugy, it 'just is.'

👖They're not averse to other classic fashion items though - Birkenstocks and Levi jeans are both sanctioned products according to TikTok's tastemakers pic.twitter.com/ybnxBdShKp

👕 Slogan Tees 👕

Any item bearing phrases like ‘Live, Laugh, Love’ or ‘But First, Coffee’ screams cheug.

👩‍💻The phrase 'Girl-Boss' is also particularly derided.

It goes without saying that Friends, Minions or Star Wars-branded merchandise is very much off-limits pic.twitter.com/XipCdRLucp

🤠The cheugy detector doesn't stop there, fedora hats, chevron stripes and anything 'shabby chic' also makes it onto the no-go list.

Apparently even lasagne is cheugy, though it wouldn’t stop a cheug-conscious TikTokker from eating it
