i mean, i did love the show and i was fully ready to embrace the movie as its own thing but some of the changes they made were baffling. they cut some good songs and yet the movie still felt really long??? jon chu is not a great director to me, the new arrangements felt lifeless in places, and umm the ladies cast for vanessa and nina did not have IT vocally. that may have been my biggest disappointment.

the best thing about it to me were the changes they made to sonny's plot line. they were welcome additions to the story.

I'm glad someone agrees that Jon Chu is not a great director.

I'm not really excited about the movie when they announced he was going direct despite his connections to dancers and dance movies.

I would have taken a Kenny Ortega over Jon Chu.

yeah idk being able to film dancers does not equal being able to film musical sequences and i feel like he didn't do a great job with most of them. everyone was praising it after the online screening and it legit did bring me joy after this shitty ass year but after i sat with it for a day i was like... this isn't that good of a movie. like i went from 4.5 to 2.5 on it real quick

sunrise, inutil, and enough, which are big problems for me. they changed the placement and context for paciencia y fe and carnival del barrio.

damn that is really disappointing. i also listened to the movie version of the title track and... maybe im too used to the OBC but whoever's playing daniela sounds WEAK in comparison. oh wait i just saw it's daphne rubin vega which annoys me because i've never liked her voice lol

the music also just sounds super thin on this recording.. idk im already disappointed lol
