Lucie Arnaz, Lucy and Desi Arnaz's daughter, addressed this topic in two posts from her official facebook page.

An Aaron Sorkin take on Lucille Ball is not needed because it's probably going to be about how Desi is the person who taught Lucy how to be funny.

I haven't seen these episodes. Literally no one will compare to Lucille Ball. It's just hard to watch because I've seen these episodes sooooooo many times and all I can see was how she isn't Lucy. Something about her inflections/voice are way off to me, but she was ok I guess lol

Yup, agreed. I have watched I Love Lucy episodes a million times and I wasn't impressed by Debra Messing. It felt too over the top like you can tell this is Debra Messing trying to be Lucy Ricardo.

I'm thinking is going to be very forgiving of Arnaz' problems and infidelities because he was brilliant in many ways but was also what an older Ball directly called in a Barbara Walters interview a loser. She said that in the 70s and was very firm on that. I think Sorkin feels, after his problems and having his ego, a lot of kinship with Arnaz. I don't think he's dumb enough to make Arnaz out a hero or Ball a harridan. But given his seeming inability to write three-dimensional women who don't fit one of his two or three stock characterizations of them in previous work, I'm not confident in this project at all.
