I rewatch GG a lot when I clean (which is, in itself, a lot lol) and have been rewatching episodes with new eyes~ What they did with certain subjects, they did excellent - homelessness among elderly, age discrimination, and having a character that was as sex-positive as Blanche. So it makes all the shit comments they make stand all the more (I still can't believe in so many eps they elude that Stan r*ped Dorothy and that's?? a?? joke???)

I remember the GG episode where Rose gets notified that she may have gotten HIV through a blood transfusion. Rose says something to the effect of “but I’m not a bad person, how did this happen” and Dorothy tears into her.

Oops, it was Blanche. I should go and rewatch, because it was such a good episode.

It was Blanche who tore into her, not Dorothy. Rose said it should have happened to someone like Blanche because of her sexuality and love of sex.

However, Dorothy did tore into Sophia because her mother was avoiding things that Rose have touched or used.

Thanks, I remember Rose getting set straight, but for some reason I thought it was Dorothy.

Yeah I loved that scene! I get during the 80s the attitude surrounding AIDS/HIV was worse than it is now, but that episode could have def swing left and Blanche's speech hammered it home.

Yeah I've felt the same way about some of the jokes about Stan and Dorothy. There's also a lot of racist humor on the show, particularly towards Asian people.

Yeah that's the other, equally important thing - the racism (especially Anti-Asian racism) is off the chart in that show.

The nostalgia for GG has been interesting, but its been made a millenial/gen-z darling when it definitely needs to be called out for its blatant racism

Yeah I definitely have a nostalgia for it and still find a lot of the show funny, but it's jarring how blatant some of the anti-Asian humor is. Most of the time the lines are delivered by Sophia and it's like the writers are saying "we know this is offensive but it's okay because the cooky old lady is saying it!!" which is...not better.
