this interview caused them to be shelved for 3 years lmaooo they were picking up so much steam with their 1D association and then moving into pop-punk bandom. it was hilarious to watch things change literally overnight. they only rly started recovering momentum in 2019 and their label had them on a tight leash but still manage to show their asshole selves every few months.

it was so rare to have one interview completely derail your career and alienate most of your fanbase.

like it wasn't that they talked about sex and drugs that was their undoing it was how misogynistic they were. the majority of their fanbase was just learning about feminism/becoming aware of social justice causes so this shit came out and people lost all respect for them. this interview was a case study in bad pr.

Yeah, it was almost comical how they thought they could be so disdainful for their fan base in an interview and expect to keep them. Talk about biting the hand that feeds

it was the first time I've ever witnessed it happen too. usually people make excuses for male pop stars but this was a hardline for most fans.

What was the (attempted) clean up on this? I've googled a bit but can't quite seem to find if they apologized/explained. The fallout must have been wild.

nothing. they literally packed up and went home. there was some bitchy subtweets but idt they ever fully apologized for it or owned up to it.

The fact that this kind of backlash is usually reserved for female stars who do way less offensive shit was the cherry on this sundae. We need more of this energy for losers

It seems so tame.

I mean, it was really misogynistic and a lot of people were wondering who were all these girls they were bragging about sleeping with, since their fanbase was mostly underaged girls. They came off as huge creeps.

honestly it was glorious to witness and the fact that they haven’t yet recovered is HILARIOUS

eh idk I'd say they unfortunately have recovered. youngblood, easier, and teeth was huge and they're playing arenas again. they aren't as commercially viable but they're still rly popular.
